Krishnapuram Palace

The Krishnapuram Palace, built in the 18th century, now functions as a museum. Constructed in typical Kerala-style architecture, it has the largest mural painting in Kerala.Also, this palace museum at Krishnapuram houses the famous Kayamkulam double-edged sword.

Kayamkulam Lake

Kayamkulam Lake is a part of the Kerala backwaters tourist map. The Kayamkulam Boat Race is held on the fourth Saturday of August every year. The famous Chinese fishing nets can be found on the banks of the lagoon.

Ochira Temple

It is a very ancient pilgrimage center that is centered on the ParaBrahma Temple (that is dedicated to the Para Brahman or Ohmkaram, (the Universal Consciousness), One of the biggest kettukala in the Irupethiettam Onam Festival is from Memana Kara. In the early times the natives of Oachira used to hire kettukala(A pair of oxen made of wood and covered with hay and cotton;one in white and the other in red,representing Siva and Parvathy of Hindu mythology)from remote places. Memana thekku Yuvajana Samithy, mainly a youth organisation is the front runner to construct a pair of kettukala as their own and also for Oachira. It was there after that, other karas followed the path.

Matha Amirthanantha Mayi Devi Ashram

Oachira is the gateway to Matha Amrithanandamayi Devi Asramam at Vallikkavu is 10 Kms.It is also the birth place of Matha Amrithananandamayi devi.

Munroe Island

Formed by the backwaters of Ashtamudi Lake and Kallada River, this island is named after Colonel Munroe, the British Resident of erstwhile Travancore State. He is credited with having integrated several backwater regions by digging canals. One of the most picturesque village in Kerala, blessed with a number of crisscrossing canals and zigzagging waterways. The island plays host of many migratory birds.
